RTLS in Eductation: Tracking students and teachers to shape new school design
The Monash University Education Futures Faculty, has recently embarked on an ambitious study of student behaviour in new-style learning spaces, which relies on access to precise and accurate real-time location data.
By collecting and analysing student positioning data, the study seeks to answer three key questions to shape the future of educational architecture:
•How does the initial educational vision behind a school’s design compare with how the spaces are used?
•How do students and teachers experience these spaces on a day-to-day basis?
•How do physical features of a building interact with social and cultural behaviours to drive learning?
In order to achieve these outcomes, Education Futures has engaged Gradient Advanced Technologies to meet their need for highly accurate location data recording.
By leveraging state-of-the-art Quuppa RTLS tracking technology, Gradient Advanced Technology is able to supply Education Futures with comprehensive and accurate location data across the study’s large cohort of approximately one hundred students.
To accurately record instances of interaction between students, their peers, their teachers and their environment, Education Futures requires:
•Precise location tracking down to distances of 20cm
•Reliable and accessible data recording for large numbers of students
•Low latency tracking for students in constant motion
•Small, powerful, non-obstructive tags which can be easily worn by students
Quuppa locators are uniquely suited to this task, thanks to their high accuracy, real time recording, proprietary tags and accessible data records.
